A driveway is a working surface
Your driveway carries cars, trucks, delivery vans and a winter of plows and snow blowers. It also sets the tone for the front of your home. A good driveway needs to do both jobs: stay strong and even under load, and add to your curb appeal instead of taking away from it.
In York County and the Seacoast, frost is the main enemy. Water that gets under a driveway and freezes lifts the surface, then drops it again in spring. The result is cracks, ruts and sunken spots. The way to prevent that is a deep, compacted base and a surface pitched so water runs off.
Paver, concrete and brick driveways
We install three main driveway surfaces, and each has its strengths:
- Paver driveways: a wide range of colors and patterns, a textured surface, and individual units that can be lifted and reset if a repair is ever needed
- Concrete driveways: a clean, continuous surface that suits many homes and commercial properties
- Brick driveways: a traditional look that fits older homes, village settings and brick architecture

How we build a driveway
Every driveway starts with the ground under it. We excavate the old surface and soft soil, install and compact a gravel base in layers sized for vehicle traffic, and set grades so water flows away from the house and garage. Edges are restrained so the surface does not spread over time. For paver and brick driveways, joints are filled and compacted to lock the field together.

We look at the width you need for parking and turning, the path from the car to the door, and how the driveway meets the street. Then we help you choose a material and pattern that suits your home, whether that is a coastal cape in Kennebunk, a colonial in Exeter or a newer home in Sanford. Frequently asked questions
Are paver driveways good in Maine winters?
Yes, paver driveways handle Maine winters well when they are built on a deep, compacted base with good drainage. The joints between pavers allow slight movement without cracking, and damaged units can be replaced individually. Plowing is fine with a little care at the edges.
Should I choose pavers or concrete for my driveway?
Choose pavers if you want more design options and easy spot repairs. Choose concrete if you want a simple, continuous surface. We can walk you through both at your site visit and help you decide what fits your home and how you use the driveway.
Can you replace my existing asphalt or concrete driveway?
Yes. We remove the old surface, correct the base and drainage, and install a new paver, concrete or brick driveway.
